The goal of the International Paris Agreement is to keep global temperature increases to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels by reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 – and to net zero by 2050. To meet the goal, fossil fuel use must be substantially decreased – and energy- efficiency must be increased. Governments need to do much more, but so do we as energy consumers. In addition to using clean, renewable energy whenever we can there’s another great mechanism – heat pumps. Heat pumps don’t eliminate fossil fuel usage, but they use it much more efficiently. They heat and cool your home by transferring heat energy back and forth to the outdoors, depending on the season. And, you can transfer up to 3 units of heat energy, for every 1 unit of electric energy used.
